Did Donald Trump Bargain on His Porcelain Veneers?

A friend told me that Donald Trump bargained with his dentist about his porcelain veneers on his smile makeover in order to get a better deal. Is that true? What kind of haggling his possible on a smile makeover?

Dear Drew,
As it turns out, I know exactly the story behind Donald Trump’s smile makeover. A colleague of mine is friends with the dentist who did it. He didn’t haggle about the price of the porcelain veneers. Instead, he challenged the dentist on the number of veneers to be done in the case.
Here’s what happened. Donald Trump went to see Dr. Larry Rosenthal. He is a prominent cosmetic dentist on the upper east side of Manhatten, with offices just off Madison Avenue. Dr. Rosenthal was the dentist to many celebrities of that time period and gave many of them their “Hollywood” smiles.
Dr. Rosenthal discussed with him the smile he wanted, examined him, and told him the right number of porcelain veneers to get those results. The Donald, being the Donald, told him he’d only do a lower number of porcelain veneers. But, Dr. Rosenthal isn’t known for his gorgeous results for nothing and told Donald Trump that he wouldn’t take his case if he wasn’t willing to do it right.
Trump left. But, later that day called his dentist back and scheduled the appointment to do it the right way. As my colleague discussed this with him, they felt that Donald Trump was testing Dr. Rosenthal to see if he cared about him as a patient or he just wanted the bragging rights of doing The Donald’s smile.
The suspicion is that if, as Trump was leaving, the dentist would have said, “Okay, we’ll do the number you want,” that Trump would not have scheduled the appointment. He wanted a dentist who was uncompromising with quality.
If you’re wanting a smile makeover with porcelain veneers, you want a dentist who will be honest with you and tell you exactly what you need to get the gorgeous smile of your dreams, not someone who just wants your business.
