Luster Premium Home Whitening

Posted by Annmarie SanSevero

My dentist only does Zoom Whitening for teeth whitening. I’m looking for an alternative for that where I can do the whitening slowly at home. My conditions are that I do want it to be effective. So, while I know that Crest Whitestrips work, they are way too slow. I was reading about options and there is a Luster Premium Home Whitening kit that seems to provide good results. Reviewers said that their teeth grew whiter fairly quickly. Do you know much about this? Is it safe?

Dear Alex,

I am very glad you wrote. I have both bad news and good news for you. While it is true that there are over-the-counter whitening kits that work, this isn’t one of them. Instead, this uses a pigment to stain the teeth whiter. The effect is only temporary. It’s one of those phony offerings. My guess is that they wrote their reviews before the pigment wore off. Even those that do work, will be weak, like the Crest whitestrips. This is because there is only so strong whitening can get when not under the care of a medical professional, like a dentist.

There is a way for you to do at-home whitening. I know you said your dentist only did the Zoom Whitening. He or she may be willing to give you the at-home whitening anyway. Even doing Zoom, your dentist is likely to make the take-home trays for the patients to use briefly.  You could ask your dentist about his willingness to provide you with teeth whitening trays and gel. It should not be a problem. However, if it is, I would simply go to a different dentist to get your teeth whitened. You won’t have to switch dentists.

Be aware that a dentist will want you to have your teeth cleaned before getting your whitening done. This is because if you don’t the results will be splotchy. You can either go when it is time to get your teeth cleaned or, if you’ve recently had them cleaned, then you can tell that to the whitening dentist and they should think that is sufficient.
