Which is Cheaper DURAthin or Lumineers?

Posted by writeradmin

I am planning on getting a smile makeover. Two brands I’ve been looking at are DURAthin and Lumineers. In the images I have seen, DURAthin looked more attractive. Can you tell me which brand is cheaper? Or, are they close together in price? This is a big decision and I’m wanting to make the right choice.

Dear Carol,

I am glad you are writing now, instead of after you ended up with a cosmetic dentistry horror story. There are so many of them. While I am glad that you are doing research before making your investment, I want to shift your thinking just a bit. You are looking at the brands. Instead, what you need to be looking at is the dentists.

Think of it like a sculpture. If two artists were commissioned to create a sculpture of the same subject and even given the exact same materials to work with, do you think that the sculptures would look exactly the same? Absolutely not! It’s the skill of the artist that matters. It is the same when it comes to cosmetic dentistry.

I would like you to look for a top of the line cosmetic dentist to do your smile makeover. They will know the strengths and weaknesses of each brand of porcelain veneers. Once you tell them what type of smile you want, they can recommend the materials that will best suit that. The reason that the DURAthin images tend to look better than Lumineers likely has to do with the lab. The Lumineers brand requires dentists to use their lab, which is not known for producing beautiful results. DURAthin allows dentists to choose their own ceramist, which gives the dentist more control. That does not guarantee a good result, though.

How Do You Find An Expert Cosmetic Dentist?

One of the biggest challenges that cosmetic dentistry patients face is that it is not actually a recognized specialty. Any dentist can call themselves a cosmetic dentist. Because doing smile makeovers is not adequately taught in dental school, it is up to the dentist whether or not they invest in post-doctoral training. In order to do a smile makeover beautifully, a dentist requires both technical training as well as artistry. That makes this training an imperative.

Finding that dentist can be made easier by going to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) website. The AACD has an accreditation program. Dentists have to pass stringent exams as well as demonstrate their artistry before a board of directors. Very few dentists reach accreditation. The best cosmetic dentists in the world are AACD accredited. On their website, you will find a search for a dentist link. Input your area code as well as how far you are willing to travel. Make sure that you check that you are looking for an accredited dentist. This is a completely different category than just being a member. Any dentist can just pay to be a member. You cannot pay to get accredited.
